Halvik: Infusing Agility into Business Processes

Halvik

Bob Tibbs, VP of Operations, HalvikBob Tibbs, VP of Operations
The waterfall development model has become increasingly burdensome as stringent budgets and continuously shifting business and mission needs have become the determining factor in development methodology selection. Federal agencies and developer communities are embracing agile processes to cope with rapidly advancing technical innovation and shifting requirement demands. Aligned with present trends and as a leader of solution development innovations, Halvik, headquartered in McLean, VA utilizes the power of automation in streamlining software delivery. To address variance in project demands, Halvik has adapted and tailored agile methodologies to significantly speed up the development process for their clients. Leveraging the increased collaboration between operations and development teams, through DevOps integrated with their tailored Agile Methodologies, Halvik’s clients realize substantial increases in software quality, decreases in software build time, and greater stability in production deployments.

Being focused on DevOps, Halvik has curtailed the standard development cycle and minimized software build times while realizing reduced production disruption for the benefit of their customers. The collaborative strategy has also evolved Halvik, into a firm, which can accelerate development rates and rapidly align business orientation. DevOps have erased the boundaries between development and operations/ maintenance. Halvik’s collaborative solutions, hosted on centralized cloud enterprise platforms, deliver stable services uniformly for uninterrupted service delivery. Halvik ensures centralized governance and controls for quality enhancement, overhead reduction, and standardization of the collaborative process across the organization to provide seamless integration. “Halvik’s small but effective project teams collaborate with customers through a business-driven, user-focused, technological ability to ensure optimal results,” says Robert Tibbs, Vice President of Operations, Halvik.

Imparting numerous robust processes and methodologies in development and deployment of solutions, Halvik also provides system and solution designs based on customer needs.

DevOps lowers the percentage of time commitment and disconnect encountered in the transition of software products from the stages of development to operations and maintenance

The company specializes in embedded test automation frameworks into their continuous build/continuous integration platforms and thus provides full end-to-end solutions, which is a continuing goal. “DevOps lowers the time commitment and disconnect encountered in the transition of software products from the development stage to operations and maintenance,” says Tibbs. Halvik’s comprehensive approach led to the creation of many success stories, which reveal the power of its DevOps solutions. For a large federal customer, Halvik designed, deployed and maintained an Enterprise DevOps platform utilized by over 30 disparate development teams across the agency. Halvik provides a centralized collaborative environment, so the developers and operations teams can work together in real time for planning and issue resolution as well as governance and orchestration oversight for build and deployment coordination. As a result, software build times were reduced from a matter of several days to under 30 minutes. This provided the client an economical solution with significant realized costs saving, which succeeded in optimizing resources and schedules ahead of client expectations.

Halvik employs a continuous improvement program at its DevOps Center of Excellence where cues are taken from the latest industrial trends and innovations. Metrics related to build-time, production failures, and quality assurance are analyzed for root cause determination, which is a part of an uninterrupted amelioration philosophy. “We apply comprehensive automated testing methods in the development of our solutions to proactively address quality issues and identify potential business impact prior to production,” states Tibbs.

Armed with significant industry and client experience, Halvik continues to strive to lead the evolution of DevOps, Agile, and Test Automation practices.
